The Shirthouse Band

The Shirthouse Bluegrass Band is a Southern California band with a Tennessee sound. Two of the members, Conley & Rob have roots in Tennessee. This great band has been around for about ten years and can be found at several venues around San Diego County and beyond. You can catch them every third Sunday at the Urban Solace Restaurant’s “Bluegrass Brunch” in North Park. Every few weeks they sojourn up to Julian and perform at Wynola Pizza Express. They frequent the Pine House Café on Laguna Mtn, San Pasqual Winery in La Mesa Old Town, they’re at the Ramona Cowboy Days Festival in July, various bluegrass & music festivals and events and can be found doing shows at several other wineries in the region, as well as private events and weddings. They also perform at several of the public libraries around the San Diego area. The guys frequent both the San Diego Bluegrass Society monthly jams and the North County Bluegrass & Folk Club meetings, as well as community fund raisers, parades and events. The Shirthouse Band plays at various churches, as they have a strong emphasis on the bluegrass gospel musical style.

Shirthouse is made up of Rich Craig on banjo, Peter Lauterbach on mandolin/ guitar/ fiddle/bass, Conley Robinson on guitar/mandolin, Rob Lewallen on guitar/ mandolin/bass and Len Claesson on electric and stand-up bass. The Shirthouse Band has an emphasis on strong vocal harmonies and frequently strays off the path of the traditional with many of their tune selections. They have reworked songs from several genres – rock, folk, country, Irish and old Western into a bluegrass blend, and frequently sing a cappella. Selections include some original songs as well, and they’re releasing a new CD before long. All members split up the lead vocal duties and contribute to their distinct five part harmonies.
